NZ Herald Letter to the Editor - Leadership Required Over Rugby Brawl

School principals need to be leaders.

Kia ora,

Both principals of Kelston Boys and Auckland Grammar schools should ban their 1st 15 teams from playing this Saturday, sending a clear signal that It is not OK to brawl and fight like they did at their game last weekend. In defending their schools, the principals have minimised the actions of their players, inferring that the behaviour is okay. Yes, the fact grown men (spectators) got involved in the fight was deplorable but the school principals can do nothing about them other than to publicly show the players will not be allowed to get away with such appalling behaviour.

Video footage of the brawl is already one of the most viewed clips on the web today. The principals, and the NZRFU for that matter, need to be leaders. As a father and a keen rugby supporter, I believe that the way this incident is treated will set the standard of behaviour for many other rugby players and their supporters. Take a stance. It is not okay!
