Te Pūrongo ā-Tau a Te Kupenga – Te Kupenga Annual Report 2010-2011

Our mission at Te Kupenga is to be leaders in violence prevention through advocacy, research and excellence in practice.

As well as celebrating our combined achievements in the period under review, this Annual Report documents a wide range of issues and concerns which have challenged our membership.

Our Highlights 2010-2011

Taskforce for Action on Violence within Families: Te Kupenga continued to be an active member of the Government’s Taskforce for Action on Violence within Families as well as the Māori Reference Group supporting this work. The Taskforce advises the Family Violence Ministerial Team on how to eliminate family violence in Aotearoa / New Zealand.

Kia Rangatira te Mahi: Māori Best Practice: Te Kupenga developed national best practice standards for Māori practitioners and agencies working to stop domestic violence in their communities. Kia Rangatira te Mahi: Māori Best Practice manual was launched at a Māori training seminar in March 2011.

Toitoi Manawa: Inspiring Change: Te Kupenga hosted more than 140 delegates at its national domestic violence conference in Wellington in June. The hui brought together a cross-section of presenters and participants from community and government to share, inspire and lead thinking in preventing domestic violence.

RAP: Respect All People – Whakamana Tangata: An innovative and ground-breaking Te Kupenga project promoting youth non-violence launched a new-look website – www.respect.org.nz – as well as special training for youth workers. RAP workshops for people working with rangatahi gave participants new ideas, approaches and resources.

White Ribbon Campaign: Te Kupenga continued to take an active role through its work with the national co-ordinating committee and supported a number of high profile events including the White Ribbon Ride and the White Ribbon Race. National manager Brian Gardner was officially acknowledged as a White Ribbon Ambassador.
